Shying away from roach back dogs, we rigorously select for the "old world style German Shepherd." Any time we offer a German Shepherd puppy for sale, know this: we only use working line pedigreed dogs! As working line German Shepherd breeders, we specialize in Czech, Slovakian and the east German Shepherd dog. The pedigrees on our adults are stacked with IGP titled parentage. Building on some of the world's top ranked Schutzhund dogs, our mission is to produce better and better German Shepherd puppies with each successive generation. IGP titled bloodline puppies are bred from dogs that have earned titles in IGP (Internationale Gebrauchshunde Prüfungsordnung), which is an international triathlon dog sport that includes tracking, obedience, and protection phases. Dogs with IGP titles come from pedigrees that have demonstrated ranked performance and success in these areas, indicating a strong lineage of working or performance dogs.

DM clear (N/N) studs typically indicates that the stud dogs are clear of Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), which is a genetic disorder that affects the spinal cord in dogs. The “(N/N)” notation refers to the result of a genetic test for the DM gene. Dogs that are “N/N” have tested negative for the mutation associated with DM, meaning they do not carry the gene responsible for the disorder. This information is important for breeding purposes to ensure that offspring are not at risk of inheriting the disease.

Working Line Pedigrees refers to the lineage or ancestry of dogs bred specifically for work-related purposes, such as herding, protection, or police work.

Working Line German Shepherds

German Shepherds

Working line German Shepherds are not a separate breed. They are in the purest sense, “German Shepherds.” Many will argue the working lines are the 21st century’s purest representation of the original sense of that which the breed was designed to represent. Sporting a much straighter topline than show line dogs, working line dogs often prove much healthier. We shouldn’t be surprised to find this true. Whereas show line breeding often springs from a “do I look pretty in the show ring,” working lines have for generations been selected to endure the harsh rigors of cold and heat while sustaining long hours of work under harsh conditions. Only top prospects survived this often grueling work environment. Despite their apptitude for tracking and protection work, the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) is known for their loyal love. Our dogs love our family in ways nearly incomprehensible. We routinely find them pushing their muzzle onto our laps during our morning coffee. This loyalty is part of what makes them special as protection dogs, especially in home protection. They love the people whom they claim as family. And woe to those who come between them and their family. For more info click on this link for more on the history and distinctives of German Shepherds.

Working line German Shepherd

The working line German Shepherd dog are distinct from their show counterpart in both structure and temperament. Intelligent and easy to train, this dogs have been selected as premier home protection dogs. They tend to be ideal prospects for active duty work alongside law enforcement and military. As intelligent and loyal dogs, these lines have been selected for decades for their biddability— their ease in training. They are known for their enjoyment in training, obedience and the sport of Schutzhund. Some of the more serious dogs ( those with the more edgy temperament) will thrive in the high intensity environment of more active duty. Our dogs on our ranch have been selected for temperament, responsiveness to training and health. Having selected a cross section of some of the world’s premier, imported working lines, options exist for most people— great options.

Czech Shepherds

Opinions regarding which working lines are the best differ. Some prefer Czech Shepherds. Others prefer Slovakian Shepherds. And then some insist the breed began in Germany and that the best lines remain until this day the German working line German Shepherds. A good argument can be made that each of these countries has contributed immensely to the breed and examining individual pedigrees will likely provide the greatest insight whether a particular bloodline will suit you particular needs. They key factor in choosing a pup starts with near term parentage. What traits are dominant in a dog’s pedigree? How serious are these dogs? How strong is the off switch? Slovakian Shepherds

As active dogs,  the Slovakian shepherds— like other working lines— thrive in an environment where they have plenty of access to sunshine and the outdoors. They love to run; most love to swim. On our ranch, one of our dogs’ favorite pastimes is swimming in our ponds and retrieving sticks. We can hardly get through the pasture gates before they are ahead of us on the way to the water. With wagging tails, you can see they are beside themselves and having fun. Incredibly loyal, you will find these dogs will develop an amazing bond with your family. Even the highly trained protection dogs can turn that switch off, and when with their family they crave attention. They will love you and if they have their way, will be adopted into your family as another member! naturally excel as service dogs, search and rescue, drug and explosive detection, and protection— whether in the home or something more serious. Alsatian Shepherds

Following World War 1, the British popularized the name “Alsatian Shepherds,” a description of the border area of Alsace-Lorraine between Germany and France. This name gained such popularity that the breed’s name was nearly changed. The rationale was a move to mitigate anti-German rhetoric. This alternate name gained official status and was used until 1977 when a petition was made and granted to reinstate the original name. Had it not been for this petition, our working line German Shepherds would be known by a very different name. Many people within the United States are unaware of this historic name change. But for many parts of the world, this name, Alsatian Shepherd, remains popular to this day. With a love all things GSD, it can be fun to learn of our breed’s history and the twists and turns along its journey. Who would have thought that German Shepherds could easily have been known today as Alsatian Shepherds.

German Shepherd Puppy For Sale

As German Shepherd breeders of true working line dogs, our commitment is to further the breed by producing dogs consistent with the historical values of why the breed was developed. Committed to ensuring every German Shepherd puppy for sale we offer is one of the highest caliber dogs available anywhere within the USA— or even the world requires objective testing. This is one of the main reasons why we don’t include show lines GSDs in our breeding program, but exclusively limit ourselves to tested lines and dogs. By tested we mean pedigrees stacked with dogs whom have been tested and proven to excel in three areas: protection, tracking and obedience. Unlike a typical show context where the focus is conformation, which dog looks the closest to the breed standard, our path requires pedigrees where the focus is primarily one of capacity to perform. How does the dog perform in obedience? Is the dog a bundle of nerves? Is the dog dog overly stubborn. How responsive is the dog to training? Does it show a high capacity for learning tracking skills and protection?  When it comes to protection, is the dog prone to human aggression? Does the dog have a great off switch so that when it is not working it will switch back to expressing love and care towards the people it is around. We each German Shepherd Puppy for sale offered here at Czech Working Line is to exceed the highest standards of performance, great care and thought necessarily goes into producing each litter.

German Shepherd Puppies For Sale

In keeping with what we have just been discussing, our commitment to producing the world’s finest German Shepherd puppies for sale places a high priority on biddability (how easily can a given dog be trained). We do place a high priority on the tracking and protection capacity demonstrated though each dog in multiple generations of pedigrees on our dogs. In fact, our intention is, except in rare cases, to only use dogs where parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on going back for not just three or four generations, but for many generations has been titled. By building on these pedigrees with long term ability proven over and over, we ensure a high probability of success in our bloodline. It is this commitment to objective testing that sets our program and every litter of German Shepherd puppies for sale we offer as distinct and a cut above most GSD breeding programs. Not only are we exercising extreme care in who we breed and why we choose a specific dog for our breeding program, but we routinely eliminate dogs from our breeding line that don’t meet these standards.

German Shepherd For Sale

So yes, our intention is to practice a very high level of commitment in which dogs we breed and why each dog has been chosen for our breeding program. Carrying out our commitment to only offering the highest caliber German Shepherds for sale necessarily requires we go far beyond simply choosing AKC registered breeding stock. Yes, it’s true that we only use AKC registered breeding stock. But on a scale of one to a hundred, the fact that our dogs are AKC registered GSDs barely moves the scale as to whether we could use a dog in our breeding program. Absolutely, we consider it a minimum requirement of only breeding proven, purebred, registered dogs. But as described above, our commitment is far higher than this standard. As most ethical breeders will freely admit, a high percentage of purebred breeding stock ought never be used in a breeding program. Sadly, all across the country, nearly every city and county across the USA will have GSD breeders with sub-standard dogs for sale. Just as we examine each pedigree to ensure consistency in obedience, tracking and protection, in the same way we also evaluate health. DM clear dogs are a must, as well as pedigrees stacked with great hips and elbows!

Working Line German Shepherd Breeder

Our commitment as working line German Shepherd breeders is simple. We never incorporate show lines into our breedings. You can see articles we have written explaining why. Such a move would be to dilute what makes these bloodlines distinct from the show lines. While some breeders might argue otherwise, the extreme roach back that has been increasingly popularized over the last thirty to forty years is reason enough to stay away from these lines. Committed to producing some of the world’s finest dogs, we start with Schutzhund titled, health tested, DM clear studs. We start with the cleanest possible slate, and work to forge ahead from there.
