Czech Working Line: who are we?

We are German Shepherd Dog breeders who specialize in raising working line German Shepherds that are extremely easy to train. Our dogs are all from imported, Czech, DDR, and west German working lines. Every pedigree is packed with IGP titled dogs. Our focus is on healthy working line GSDs that are easy to train with a history of longevity. Our puppies are raised with children in a family context. 

Czech Working Line: Oklahoma German Shepherd Dog Breeders.

A family of eight. we live in northern Oklahoma we live on a cattle ranch where we raise grass fed, antibiotic free South Poll Cattle. Living on a ranch gives our dogs plenty of room to roam. With multiple ponds on our land, one of their favorite pastimes is swimming. They even like to swim in the winter! As long as there is not ice, they are out there begging us to throw sticks for them to retrieve.

We only raise true working line German Shepherds: no show line dogs!

You won’t find show line dogs on our property. Not a single one! The modern roach back is big part of why we never mix show dogs into our lines (for articles spelling out in greater detail problems relating to the roach back and hip dysplasia see here and here). We want all our German Shepherd puppies for sale to be very trainable. That and come from lines with a long life expectancy. Working line German Shepherds: the healthier choice.

 

Great litters of German Shepherd puppies don’t just “accidentally” occur. They are the result of careful planning and research. We are member of working-dogs.com. An incredibly tool for research, pedigree research and health testing records can be done on this site. Owners will generally list documented health records. Third party vet/lab verified health results can be posted, as can Schutzhund titles and scores. All of this in addition to the ability to track progeny and dogs that share similar history. Here at Czech Working Line, we only use Schutzhund titled stud dogs that test clear of degenerative myelopathy (DM). Doing so means none of our German Shepherd puppies for sale will ever be DM affected. Same thing with hips and elbows. They are only ever great or good, never fair (This is if using the OFA system. Truth be told, we have never bought a stud dog unless its hips and elbows were great (A/O under European ranking system). 

 

How does a GSD breeder offer German Shepherd puppies for sale with a longer life expectancy? That’s a great question. The answer is about as simple as you might expect. Select and prioritize breeding stock with a proven history of living long, healthy lives. Here at Czech Working Line, one of our all time fan favorite stud dogs is world champion Gero z Beounske basty. Gero turns eleven years old in March of 2025. He is still actively producing, with multiple confirmed litters of German Shepherd puppies on the ground in the last few months. And he is just days away from turning eleven. It’s not just enough for a dog to live a long time, but we want to see a high quality of life. We have both a Gero daughter and grand daughter. Health and longevity are two key reasons why we love this line. Improving the breed requires GSD breeders such as ourselves do the hard work of pedigree research. Many dogs just don’t make the cut and must be excluding from the breeding process!

 

First health, then producing German Shepherd puppies that are really easy to train.

Our German Shepherd puppies for sale come from IGP titled pedigrees.

IGP titled versus AKC champion, these are both the same thing, right? One is European and the other American. They are not. A titled German Shepherd is miles and miles apart from a purebred AKC German Shepherd champion. The titled dog is tested against an objective standard. In order to earn an IGP title, a GSD must prove itself highly obedient against an objective standard. It must prove itself as able to perform tracking to a high level. It must also prove itself highly competent in protection work. The dogs are tested against an objective standard. If they cannot pass minimum standards in each of the three categories of obedience, tracking and protection work, they do not earn the title. Compare this to show dogs. A dog can be a purebred, AKC German Shepherd champion. But what does this mean? Show championships are nothing more than glorified beauty contests. Titled dogs prove themselves capable or they don’t earn the title!

We prioritize GSDs with a great off switch.

After health we are looking for highly trainable dogs with a great off switch. By off switch me mean a dog after protection work can switch off and love getting his belly scratched by the family. How strong is the off switch? Since we only use highly trained guard dogs as our studs, they have to be the kind of dogs that are safe around our children. Its imperative they have a great off switch. All our studs dogs are IGP titled. Our current male Querro is an IGP 3 titled Czech import. Our goal is the same for all our puppies. We want to see a lion’s share of our German Shepherd puppies for sale clearly showing this same character trait. How do we do this? We do so by proving our dogs against an objective standard. By only using titled working line German Shepherds. Its why we never mix in show line dogs.

Working Line German Shepherds: the ideal personal protection dog.

The working line German Shepherd is the ideal protection dog. Our German Shepherd puppies for sale have been selected to be really easy to train. Quick learners, our dogs excel in both obedience and protection work. They thrive as family guard dogs and as more serious trained guard dogs. Working line German Shepherds are often the go-to dog for law enforcement and many military applications. Our IGP 3 titled stud Querro is an exquisite example of what we hope our working line German Shepherd puppies for sale will grow up to look like. It’s like Christmas for our family every time someone with one of our puppies sends us a photo that looks like a little mini-me Querro.

Most of our German Shepherd puppies for sale go to families: our dogs make good family protection dogs.

Probably 90% or so of our dogs go to family. They serve those homes as companion dogs and as good family protection dogs. It is for this reason we prioritize a good off switch. We have six children ourselves. We know how important it is for a trained guard dog to be safe around children. So this off switch is an absolute must in a good family protection dog. But our dogs aren’t just good for families. They thrive in more serious law enforcement as well as in Schutzhund.

Biddability (super easy to train) is what has allowed many of the working line German Shepherds to achieve some of the highest Schutzhund scores. We specialize in Czech German Shepherds: Czechoslovakian Shepherds.

Opinions regarding which working lines are the best differ. Some prefer Czech German Shepherds. Others prefer Slovakian German Shepherds. And then some insist the breed began in Germany and that the best lines remain until this day the German working line German Shepherds. A good argument can be made that each of these countries has contributed immensely to the breed and examining individual pedigrees will likely provide the greatest insight whether a particular bloodline will suit you particular needs.

Slovakian Shepherds: sister cousins to Czech German Shepherds.

As active dogs,  the Slovakian German Shepherds thrive with plenty of access to sunshine and the outdoors. Most love to run and swim. On our ranch, one of our dogs’ favorite pastimes is swimming in our ponds. We can hardly get through the gate before they are ahead of us and heading for the water. With wagging tails, they are beside themselves. Alsatian Shepherds: spent time overseas, then you might be more familiar with this more European description of our German Shepherd puppies for sale.

Following World War 1, the British popularized the name “Alsatian Shepherds,” a description of the border area of Alsace-Lorraine between Germany and France. This name gained such popularity that the breed’s name was nearly changed. The rationale was a move to mitigate anti-German rhetoric. This alternate name gained official status and was used until 1977 when a petition was made and granted to reinstate the original name. Had it not been for this petition, our working line German Shepherd puppies for sale would be known by a very different name. Many people within the United States are unaware of this historic name change. But for many parts of the world, this name, Alsatian Shepherd, remains popular to this day. With a love all things GSD, it can be fun to learn of our breed’s history and the twists and turns along its journey. Who would have thought that German Shepherds could easily have been known today as Alsatian Shepherds.
