Czech Working Line: who are we?

We specialize in selling super healthy and exceptionally easy to train German Shepherd puppies. Our dogs’ pedigrees consist primarily of Czech and DDR– east German–  working lines. Every pedigree is packed with IGP titled dogs. With this commitment to health and trainability, we are actively selecting from those dogs with a proven capacity for high level obedience and protection work. As dog trainers with a focus on trained protection dogs, we are laser focused on the genetics of our dogs.

This is why we only raise true working line German Shepherds: no show line dogs!

Healthy GSD puppies that live a long time is a core value here at Czech Working Line. There is hardly a week that goes by where we don’t hear heartbreaking examples of poor breeding practices. In just the last few weeks (as of writing this article), we heard three such examples. A lady from up by Wichita was searching for a German Shepherd puppy for sale. Absolutely heartbreaking, her four year old dog was already crippled from severe, crippling hip and elbow dysplasia by four years of age. The second call was from a couple in Dallas that had was specifically searching for a Czech line German Shepherd puppies for sale. Their GSD was diagnosed with terminal cancer by only 1 1/2 years of age! The third phone call was from a couple training their dog for schutzhund. Early onset degenerative myelopathy (DM) abruptly ended that!

You won’t find show line dogs on our property. Not a single one! The modern roach back destroys sound hips and elbows in so many German Shepherds (for articles spelling out in greater detail problems relating to the roach back and hip dysplasia see here and here). Limiting our breeding stock to working line German Shepherds, we select for a straighter, more natural topline. We vigorously contend that hip dysplasia will continue to be a huge problem until such time as German Shepherd buyers en masse reject the excess of modern show line roach backs. For our family, it’s not enough for one of our dogs to simply pass its hip/elbow certifications. We go the second mile in only using stud dogs with the highest possible hip ratings. Great under OFA and an A rating under the European rating system. Same goes for DNA testing. Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) being a recessive gene requires two parents positive for puppy to be DM affected. By only ever using lab tested DM negative stud dogs none of our German Shepherd puppies will ever be DM affected (this requires puppy to carry two copies of the DM gene, one inherited from mother and another inherited from father).

In additional to superior health, we further select from pedigrees with a proven aptitude for being super easy to train. So what’s our secret to producing such trainable puppies?

We only raise litters from IGP titled pedigrees.

We prioritize GSDs with a great off switch.

After health we are looking for highly trainable dogs with a great off switch. By off switch me mean a dog after protection work can switch off and love getting his belly scratched by the family. How strong is the off switch? Since we only use highly trained guard dogs as our studs, they have to be the kind of dogs that are safe around our children. Its imperative they have a great off switch. All our studs dogs are IGP titled. Our current male Querro is an IGP 3 titled Czech import. Our goal is the same for all our puppies. We want to see a lion’s share of our German Shepherd puppies for sale clearly showing this same character trait. How do we do this? We do so by proving our dogs against an objective standard. By only using titled working line German Shepherds. Its why we never mix in show line dogs.

German Shepherds: the ideal personal protection dog.

The working line German Shepherd is the ideal protection dog. Our German Shepherd puppies for sale have been selected to be really easy to train. Quick learners, our dogs excel in both obedience and protection work. They thrive as family guard dogs and as more serious trained guard dogs. Well bred GSDs are often the go-to dog for law enforcement and many military applications. Our IGP 3 titled stud Querro is an exquisite example of what we strive to produce in our next generation. It’s like Christmas for our family every time someone with one of our puppies sends us a photo that looks like a little mini-me Querro.

Many of our German Shepherd puppies go to families: our dogs make good family protection dogs.

We prioritize a good off switch and dogs that are good with kids. They serve those homes as companion dogs and as good family protection dogs. It is for this reason we prioritize a good off switch. We have six children ourselves. We know how important it is for a trained guard dog to be safe around children. So this off switch is an absolute must in a good family protection dog. But our dogs aren’t just good for families. They thrive in more serious law enforcement as well as in Schutzhund.

We actively select for dogs that are super easy to train. The technical term is biddable dogs. Biddability (super easy to train) is what has allowed many of the working line German Shepherds to achieve some of the highest Schutzhund scores. We specialize in Czech German Shepherds: Czechoslovakian Shepherds.

Opinions regarding which working lines are the best differ. Some prefer Czech German Shepherds. Others prefer Slovakian German Shepherds. And then some insist the breed began in Germany and that the best lines remain until this day the German working line German Shepherds. A good argument can be made that each of these countries has contributed immensely to the breed and examining individual pedigrees will likely provide the greatest insight whether a particular bloodline will suit you particular needs.

Slovakian Shepherds: sister cousins to Czech German Shepherds.

As active dogs,  the Slovakian German Shepherds thrive with plenty of access to sunshine and the outdoors. Most love to run and swim. On our ranch, one of our dogs’ favorite pastimes is swimming in our ponds. We can hardly get through the gate before they are ahead of us and heading for the water. With wagging tails, they are beside themselves. We have no doubt that should you choose one of our German Shepherd puppies for sale, you’ll enjoy getting outdoors with your puppy just as much as we do with ours. Incredibly loyal, you will find these dogs will develop an amazing bond with your family.

So if you are looking for something specific, ask us about our planned litters. It will be particularly helpful to ask about our upcoming litters if you are looking for something specific. For example, if you are searching for a solid black German Shepherd puppy for sale— not just any old black GSD puppy. But something from true, authentic working lines. We don’t get that in every litter. Getting on our short list for our next litter can be helpful. The same is true if you might be looking for an ultra black sable GSD puppy— something like our male Querro. While our main goal is producing healthy German Shepherd puppies for sale that live a long time, we understand these little details also matter.
